Rocael Perez-Godoy, 36, was arrest around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after police received a report of an attack at a West Side rooming house on Oak Hill Street, said Sgt. Kenneth Jarrett.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim washing his face in the kitchen sink and with several fractured bones in his face, Jarrett said.

The 47-year-old victim told police he was sitting in the kitchen talking with other residents when Perez-Godoy came out screaming that they were talking about him. He then pulled a hammer out of his pants and began hitting the victim in the face, making contact a couple of times, Jarrett said.

Perez-Godoy then dropped the hammer and left the residence.

The victim was treated by medics and then transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Responding officers quickly located Perez-Godoy and the hammer. He was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, carrying a dangerous weapon and risk of injury to a child because several children were in the area at the time of the attack, Jarrett added.
